MGK On Confronting His Issues

Speaking with Interview magazine, MGK said he’s “taking steps” to get better and confront his demons. MGK also reveals he was living a dangerous double life between his artist persona and the man who was born Colson Baker.

“That’s the first time I ever went, ‘Hey, I need to separate these two people,’ which is Machine Gun Kelly and Colson Baker,” he said. “The dichotomy is too intense for me.”

Kelly Says Drugs Were Linked To Music

Like a lot of artists, MGK said he believed he needed to be under the influence to create.

“Adderall was a huge thing for me for a long time,” he said. “And I went from orally taking it to then snorting it, and then it became something where I was scared to ever go into a studio if I didn’t have something. … You’re telling yourself you can’t do this without that, when really it’s in you the whole time.”

Therapy Is Working For Machine Gun Kelly

While it’s early in the process, the MTV VMA winner says he’s committed to continuing therapy and is being supported by his girlfriend, acress Megan Fox.

“I’m still kind of ripping my hair out,” MGK said. “Why am I not changing overnight? How am I supposed to meditate for 10 minutes when I can’t even sit in my own brain for two minutes without distracting myself by doing something? That’s really hard.”

The album features collaborations with Halsey, Trippie Redd, Iann Dior and blackbear. Lauded by Billboard for its “dazzlingly effective songs” and Vulture for its “punk rock excellence,” MGK’s fifth studio album has propelled him into a bonafide superstar in the rock world.

Kelly made sure to celebrate the huge achievement with a must-see Instagram clip.
