Fiasco said his ten-plus years in the music industry have signaled a desire to grow and move on.

“It’s not too much of a drastic, revolutionary thing. It’s the end of one thing, stepping into another capacity now. Music business is a very taxing thing, I’ve done it for a long time. I’ve been doing it for like 12, 13 years, in various capacities. Major labels, almost every major label. And it’s just time to do something else. I don’t really look at it as being that crazy of an idea. I don’t really look at it like that. As soon as this contract is up, I’m going to step more into an independent space and have the freedom to do whatever we want.” (Hard Knock TV)

While still in the works, Fiasco revealed getting offered a potential teaching position.

“Yeah, I got an offer, it’s in the works,” Lupe said when asked about the possibility of teaching in the future. “But it’s not solid yet. It’s something that kind of just came up — very serious, but just kind of like, ‘Okay — go back to the drawing board, figure out what you want me to do, exactly, put a plan together and then let’s go back to the table. So that’s what’s happening right now. If it all comes into fruition, I think it’s something I’ll definitely be doing.” (Hard Knock TV)

His latest solo album debuted atop the music chart last year.

Leading the pack this week is Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers which topped the chart at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Lupe’s long-awaited third solo album sold 204,300 records in seven days. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Back in 2009, Fiasco said he had four more albums left on his Atlantic Records contract.

“The last six months, it’s been like, ‘I gotta really, really go out there and show that I’m nicer than all of them,’ ” Lupe explained in an interview. “It’s like, ‘All right, so be it. If it takes three more albums to do it, then so be it.’ That’s what I got left with Atlantic. Three more after Lasers. I’m already done with two. The mixtape is coming Thanksgiving. It’ll be another mixtape after that and an album after that. It’s really to get that status and lock it in and [and have people] be like, ‘Look at this positive dude, the underdog. The positive one who came and murdered all these dudes. And he’s there, and he’s good.’ I’m finnin’ to house every single mode and arena I can get into. If y’all had somewhere where it’s live performances, I’m finnin to have the best live performances. If it’s mixtapes, I’m finnin’ to have the best mixtapes. If it’s albums again, it’s gonna be the best verse. If it’s the best dressed, I’m going hard as well.” (MTV)
