Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has done much more than deliver pure audio fire. The self-proclaimed greatest rap artist alive has come through in a big way with his new Funeral album.
Big Facts: After mounted anticipation, Weezy finally hit the “go” button on Friday with his must-hear release.
Lil Wayne’s latest studio album Funeral is out now, via Young Money/Republic. The album features Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Lil Baby, Jay Rock, the-Dream, Adam Levine, the late XXXTentacion, Lil Twist, O.T. Genasis, and Takeoff. Funeral is the follow-up to Wayne’s Tha Carter V, which arrived in 2018 after years’ delay. (Pitchfork)
High-Key Details: Wayne’s latest solo offering is his first major studio release since 2018.
Funeral is Wayne’s first album since 2018’s Tha Carter V. Last year he joined Blink-182 on tour and recorded a mash-up of “What’s My Age Again” with “A Milli.” However, the tour ran into trouble when Wayne walked off stage in Tampa, complaining that the crowd was “not my swag.” Later in the year he launched his own weed brand, GKUA Ultra Premium. Wait, There’s More: Recently, Wayne talked about the importance of putting out more modern-sounding tunes.
“What the new thing is for me is actually trying to put out music that sounds a little more like today’s music. What that means for me … is adding hooks. I forget about hooks. I forget ’em. Somebody gotta come in the booth and stop me from rapping, like, ‘This is where you stop it and add a hook.’” (Q 93.3)
Before You Go: Over the past few days, Wayne has hyped fans up for his new LP.
