Rap legend Lil Wayne is officially certified Diamond for his 2008 hit, “Lollipop” off his platinum LP, Tha Carter 3. This is Weezy’s first Diamond plaque and is solely based on sales, not streams.
Rap great Lil Wayne has officially joined The Recording Industry Association of America’s Diamond club. The New Orleans native is receiving his first Diamond plaque for his 2008 single, “Lollipop.”
“Welcome to the diamond club,” the RIAA congratulated the “Fireman” rapper on Twitter.
The Non-Stop Success Of “Tha Carter 3”
Lil Wayne recently performed at his own Weezyana Weekend, and scored his first Diamond plaque after 13 studio albums. Wayne, also known as Weezy F Baby, released “Tha Carter 3” in 2008, during the era of hard copy LP sales and before the music streaming services of Spotify and Apple Music later became the main sources for music.
“Tha Carter 3,” then, famously went platinum only a week after its release. Last year, it became the third Weezy album to achieve 1 billion streams, according to Spotify. The featured artist on the “Lollipop” — Static Major, who died in February 2008, also joined the club posthumously, alongside Weezy.
In August, Lil Wayne shared on his Instagram that the Tha Carter 6 is in the works.
