Young Money leader Lil Wayne is making bad press this week for reportedly owing over a million dollars in airplane fees to a Florida company.
According to reports, legal action has been taken against Wayne and his YMCMB imprint.
The Signature Group sued Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. (Lil Wayne) and his “putative” company Young Money Entertainment on Thursday in Miami-Dade County Court. The 14-page lawsuit is acerbic, sometimes snide. “As with many such artists, Mr. Carter appears to enjoy the finer things in life: expensive cars, a mansion in La Gorce Country Club on Miami Beach, and private aircraft travel for himself, his agents, and members of his entourage, to worldwide destinations of his choice,” the complaint states. The company also claims it has tried reaching out to Wayne’s camp for payments.
The nature of this dispute is straightforward and there are dozens of written communication from Mr. Carter’s agents, not only attesting to the existence of this debt, but also promising payment if plaintiff foregoes taking action against defendants. Simply put, Mr. Carter can choose to use the proceeds that he earns to live the life of a hip-hop star – but he has to pay his bills just like the rest of us.” The Signature Group demands money owed, and damages for breach of contract and unjust enrichment. Outside of the legal woe, Wayne appears on the new XXL Magazine cover and boasts about YMCMB protégé Drake.
“Call me old-fashioned and country, but with Drake, that was the first time I’d seen someone that knew how to sing and rap. That’s all it was. I didn’t know nobody who knew how to do that. You had those old school singing n*ggas, where people would do a little eight-bar verse on their songs. But [Drake] was spitting and singing and killing that too. It took a while though. It wasn’t until I heard him spitting on one of my beats when I was like, ‘This fool’s retarded.’ When I hear something that I know I can’t do better?
