Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne speaks on his relationship with paparazzi and how they bring their A-game when he travels to Los Angeles in Interview Magazine's new April issue.
Interviewed by celebrity Paris Hilton, Weezy explains how come he avoids aggressive paps.
“[I avoid them] because I don’t live in L.A., there’s not a lot of that. But when I’ve gone to L.A. and been in the hotel or wherever, I’ve seen how serious the paparazzi is out there-like, they park across the street from the hotel and as soon as you walk out the front door, they jump out and start snapping. I live in Miami, so I really don’t have to deal with that on the same level. The only time I ever really witnessed some crazy paparazzi was during my court experiences. Every time I rode up to court, as soon as I jumped out of the truck, they were there to snap, and all in our way to where we couldn’t walk. It’s nowhere near like that around here. But maybe I’m just not that caliber of person that they want to take pictures of me like that. [laughs]” (Interview Magazine)
Wayne also opens up about the lessened pressure of paps around his current Miami hometown.
“Well, obviously sometimes, because I go out. There’s this thing out here that publishes pictures of people out and about. So when I go out, I do see pictures of myself. I don’t know where those pictures come from-I mean, I don’t see the cameras. But I guess I’m just not looking for them.” (Interview Magazine)
The rapper’s Young Money artist Drake previously talked about not liking paparazzi photos of himself.
“I always get caught in the worst, most unphotogenic poses ever,” he said in an interview. “Now people follow me with camerasand are just clicking away and I always feel like I just look mad different in pictures. I hate seeing pictures of myself online when I’m leaving a spot or whatever; I just always get caught laughing ’cause I’m always outside making jokes or whatever with the people, but I always end up looking so stupid like that’s the sh*t that I’m always like, “Man, I wish that didn’t happen,” you know? But as for people’s opinions and sh*t like that, it’s all good. That’s what’s going to happen. You know people are entitled to their opinion and it takes a certain type of individual to really come online and give their opinion of your music, positive or negative. I don’t know if you do it, but I can’t say I’ve ever gone online and posted underneath someone’s song, and be like, ‘Dope song, son.’ Or, ‘That sh*t is wack.’ I’ve never done that before. It’s just a certain community of people that really feel like that’s their outlet and I know that me and my friends aren’t any of them so I don’t know who those people are and I can’t really take their opinion too close to heart just because I’m not really sure what those people are made of and if their opinion’s even valid so I just kind of keep it moving.” (XXL Mag)
Last summer, video vixen Amber Rose discussed dealing with flashing lights.
“I’m very comfortable with my body, even in my home I’m always naked. I love being free – no hair and no clothes!,” she revealed in an interview. “The thing that people don’t understand when it comes to a relationship with a man or woman is that it’s not about sex at all, even though that’s the first thing that pops in your head. It’s about the love and the vibe you get from the person, and I believe you can find that in anyone… Sometimes [the fame] does get overwhelming because, for example, I like to be on the beach with my man with no top on…I’m very comfortable with my body…But there’s no privacy – that’s the only thing that overwhelms me. Every time I see a light flash I think it’s the paparazzi. Those f*ckers give me anxiety.” (YRB Magazine)
