Chicago rapper Lil Durk is reportedly mourning the loss of his cousin, McArthur “OTF Nunu” Swindle, who fell victim to gunfire this weekend. #RIP

According to reports, the 21-year-old rapper’s life came to an unexpected end Saturday (May 31) in ChiTown.

Around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Swindle was seated in an SUV in a parking lot in the 700 block of East 87th Street when someone approached on foot and fired shots. Swindle then crashed the SUV into a nearby storefront window, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman. Swindle, of the 7200 block of South Halsted Avenue in Englewood, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:25 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. (DNA Info)

Despite the public shooting, police have yet to make an arrest.

No one is in custody for the shooting, which appears to be gang-related, Greer said. Swindle, who goes by the rap moniker OTF Nunu, is a cousin of Lil Durk, a prominent Chicago rapper signed to Def Jam records, confirmed Merk Murphy, who runs a studio in Chicago that the artist was recording new music at. Murphy said, he was working with family to make funeral arrangements for Swindle Sunday morning. (DNA Info)

One of OTF Nunu’s associates spoke on his work ethic following the horrific murder.

Swindle’s death came as he was working on new music. “This was going to be his big breakout project,” said Merk Murphy, who runs a studio where Swindle was recording the new tracks. Like many of his contemporaries, Swindle’s drill rap focused on his life. His songs were energetic, focused on having a good time and his relationship to the people close to him, Murphy said. “He was one of those kids who saw an opportunity to put himself in a better position with his music,” Murphy said. Hours before the murder, Durk posted a new clip of himself and Nunu.

“Lil Durk Feat. OTF NuNu – OC …,” he wrote May 31. (Lil Durk’s Twitter)
