[After impressing fans with their recently released "No Handouts" mixtape, duo TK-N-Cash talk to SOHH about leaving their Disturbing Tha Peace days behind them and flourishing with Colubmia Records.]
We got our first big break when we were 15, 16-years-old with Ludacris. It worked out well but we parted ways.
We started writing in the studio, we started writing for other artists such as Trey Songz, Kevin Gates, Meek Mill, Juicy J and we went on the “Scream” tour for about two and a half years.
We picked up a lot of fans and they gravitated towards us. After the “Scream” tour, we signed with [Violator Management founder] Chris Lighty a week before he passed.
We signed to Chris Lighty. I definitely gotta say rest in peace to Chris Lighty. Shout-out to the whole Violator family. After that, we went back to the studio and came up with “Mind Right,” signed to Columbia Records and now we’re doing an interview with SOHH. -TK
We both were really just writing for other artists. That was the focus at the time. We were writing for ourselves and the music just came from it.
We got our first placement with Trey Songz on a song called, “What I Be On” and it was just a blessing to have writing in the picture. –Cash
