LeBron James has released a new film titled Shooting Stars on Peacock, which debuted on June 2, 2023. This inspiring origin story follows the journey of LeBron and his high school friends, Dru Joyce III, Sian Cotton, Willie McGee, and Romeo Travis, as they become the top-ranked high school team in the country.
Produced by LeBron James’ company, SpringHill Entertainment, in collaboration with Terrence and Rachel Winters, Shooting Stars unveils the remarkable rise of the basketball superstar, a four-time NBA Champion, and the league’s all-time leading scorer.
Shooting Stars is based on the book co-authored by James and Buzz Bissinger, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Friday Night Lights. The film chronicles James’ journey from his childhood to becoming a basketball superhero, highlighting his incredible career achievements, including four NBA championships and two Olympic Gold Medals.
It showcases the bond between James and his childhood friends, who supported him on his path to greatness.
The film features talented actors portraying real-life characters. Caleb McLaughlin, known for his role in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, portrays Dru Joyce III, one of LeBron James’ high school teammates. Scoot Henderson, who portrays Romeo Travis, is a rising star and is expected to be selected in the upcoming 2023 NBA draft. Henderson’s performance in Shooting Stars adds an authentic touch to the film’s portrayal of James’ journey.
Previously, James’ SpringHill had released films on other streaming platforms, such as the Netflix original basketball movie Hustle, starring Adam Sandler.
While Shooting Stars has garnered mixed reviews, with a 56% critic rating and a 60% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film offers an intimate look into LeBron James’ formative years and his rise to basketball greatness. It serves as an inspiration for fans and aspiring athletes alike.
