The four-time NBA champion is the third overall player to become a billionaire, but Micheal Jordan and Kobe Bryant earned their three commas after retirement. James takes the top prize as the only active NBA player to make a  billion at the age of 37.

His earnings are more than $1.2 billion pre-tax. His salary includes $385 million from playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers as the highest-earning player in the league. He earned most of his  money off the court, accumulating $900 million in endorsements and business ventures.

Some of James’ endorsements include a lifetime agreement with Nike, bringing in tens of millions annually. He also invested in several businesses, including a production company (The SpringHill Company), a sports league ( Fenway Sports Group), and real estate.

Forbes made the  historic announcement on Twitter: “LeBron James Is Officially A Billionaire.”
