[With the new Statik KXNG album finally available, Slaughterhouse’s KXNG Crooked talks to SOHH about releasing the studio project through veteran independent label Penalty Entertainment.]

It was Statik [Selektah]’s idea to bring this project to Penalty Entertainment. He actually was doing some other ventures with [Penalty Ent. head] Neil [Levine] and of course I was down with him because Neil is one of the first guys I went to when I first left Death Row [Records] to try to get my independent sh*t cracking.

It didn’t happen back then, I ended up starting a different situation but it came full circle with this Statik KXNG thing. I had no opposition to working with Neil.

Neil’s a good dude, he has had an outstanding career, his history and résumé are both outstanding and he stands for the culture.

That’s important to me. Even though it’s kind of corny out here because people are trying to make it corny. There’s really nothing corny about it but people are trying to make it corny using the word “culture” and stay down with the culture, but that’s what we’re doing out here.

I like to surround myself in business situations with people who are for the culture.
