[With his new “Statik KXNG” album finally up for grabs, Slaughterhouse’s KXNG Crooked tells SOHH what it will take for a follow-up Statik Selektah release.]
If you support it, we will bring it. I will just keep it 100 like that. I know some of the fans have some artists afraid to be who they are and afraid to say certain sh*t in an interview but I’m going to keep it a buck.
This is nothing but a CrowdFund campaign. It’s really a GoFundMe. When you drop independent, you gotta go buy the records, pre-order, buy the t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, that puts the finances in the tank to go out on the road. Then you go out and purchase the tickets.
That keeps the light bill on at the studio. Then we’ll come back with more music. It’s really in the fans’ hands.
I’m in the barber shops in the hood all the time and they talk about they want more lyricism all the time and they want more high-quality beats, well when it’s available for purchase, do the right thing and it will always be available for purchase.
It’s really in the fans’ hands.
I give them free music all the time. I just dropped two freestyles attached to this project, “February 12th,” part one, and “February 12th,” part two and I don’t mind doing part three, four and five.
It’s not about trying to get into the pockets of the fans, it’s really about the fans understanding we’re in this sh*t together.
