KRS-One will share his knowledge on hip-hop in a series of new classes for hip-hop’s 50th anniversary in the Bronx, N.Y. The “I’m Still #1” artist is now another rapper who will play a part in honoring the genre’s 50th birthday.
Rap legend KRS-One is one of the latest rappers that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. According to a press release by Black PR Wire, he will host a series of classes and exhibits on hip-hop and its culture for its 50th anniversary.
KRS-One has been interviewed about hip-hop culture numerous times during his almost four-decade-long career. Teaching about hip-hop will not be new to the Bronx-bred rapper, as he previously taught a lecture about hip-hop on Master Class.
The “Sound Of Da Police” rapper will teach classes at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, which is the address of the Community Center where hip-hop originated during a block party hosted by DJ Kool Herc on Aug. 11, 1973, in the Bronx. N.Y.
Celebrating Hip-Hop’s 50th
The classes will also celebrate the soul and current expressions. One legendary rapper who also expressed his love for hip-hop included The Roots’ Black Thought, who wrote a love letter to hip-hop for BET.
On April 25, KRS-One will also join community leaders, tenants, and building owners to launch the series, which will continue until Aug.11, the official 50th anniversary of hip-hop. The events for Aug.11 have not been confirmed.
Numerous tributes have taken place within the hip-hop community to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world-famous genre.
Rapper and actress Queen Latifah was honored by Amazon Music for her contributions to female rap, and So So Def founder and producer Jermaine Dupri will be honored in June for Essence Fest.
In addition, Brooklyn newcomer Lola Brooke teamed up with Timberland to drop a new purple boot in a new campaign to highlight the iconic shoe that has been a key part of hip-hop fashion since the 1990s. Public Enemy’s Chuck D teamed up with video network Vevo to program multiple miniseries to celebrate hip-hop and its culture.

Legendary producer DJ Premier honored hip-hop’s 50th anniversary with the album Hip Hop 50 Volume 1, released on July 15, 2022. The album features rappers Joey Bada$$, Lil Wayne, Slick Rick, Remy Ma, Rapsody, Run The Jewels, and Nas.
