[Kokane is one of the most featured artists in hip-hop for his unique voice and over the years has been no stranger to the Murder Master Music Show. While promoting his new single “El Boo Boo” off his new album “It’s Kokane not Lemonhead”, the West Coast vet spoke about his last time seeing Tupac, memories of Eazy-E, his thoughts on why Jerry Heller’s contributions should not be forgotten and wack rappers out here these days. Enjoy our interview with this one of the original G-Funk architects!]

1. Last Time Seeing 2Pac

“We was with Pac and me and Spice-1 was wanting to do this 1 Nation. When we seen him he was rollin down Sunset. It was me him and Spice-1 and we was all kickin’ it! I was playing a song and Pac came over to the piano and said he liked that song. The next day he invited Jim Belushi to downtown LA and me and Spice-1 smash up there. Pac said he wanted us to go to Vegas with him but we never did go to Vegas with Tupac and that was the last time I seen the homie..”

2. Kokane Recalls 2Pac’s Excitement For 1 Nation

“Pac sat us down and at the time me and Yella was up at Scotti Bros because we had did One Mo Nigga to go and we were choppin’ it up with Pac and it felt like a Ruthless situation. He said he really wanted me a part of it. We was gonna really get it in with him and he was really excited. If the brother didn’t have an untimely passing just like with Eazy, things would have been kinda different!.”

3. The Multi-Billion Dollar Family Tree That Eazy-E Started – Our West Coast Russell Simmons

“It’s surreal to be a part of that rich history! Eazy always gave somebody a chance! When I seen the Defiant Ones, it was on point but you gotta realize if it wasn’t no Eric putting up his hustle money this wouldn’t be possible, me and you wouldn’t be talking. His tree created multi-billion dollar corporations fror different subsidiaries outta that one tree outta him taking his Compton money and putting his dope money up and saying , let’s get it crackin! Eazy needs to be inducted into some of these college’s books. He was our West Coast Russell Simmons!”

4. You Can’t Leave Out Jerry Heller

“You can’t leave Jerry Heller out! Jerry Heller had that Jewish connection to get that shit across board! Jerry Heller was an important part because he had that connection to demographic across the world to a white audience. Big ups to Jerry Heller!”

5. On Wack Rappers Attacking The Culture

“From an OG’s perspective I put that single (El Boo Boo) out to let’em know with all this new technology it’s really swaying away the culture. It’s one thing to make money and feed your family, but the things they are perpetuating is totally against the culture! It hit me hard because hip-hop saved so many lives and this is an attack on the culture.”
