Cole said the powers that be wanted her to drop a more soulful single from her Calling All Hearts album.

“The label didn’t really want to drop the record because they knew — that people wanted a more intense, soulful record from me about love and I really should have followed [their] direction,” Cole revealed in an interview. “But I wanted that to be a statement record. It’s like saying, ‘I’m doing me, you know. I don’t have no regrets for nothing that I’m doing.’ … I just think that people expect me to be, you know, an artist that sings about just love. But I’m always growing as an artist and I have to feed my artistry.” (Associated Press)

Interscope Chairman of Geffen Records Ron Fair said he also supported Cole’s decision.

Chairman of Geffen Records Ron Fair also backs her up, “There’s no way to predict how people will respond to things. It’s something that Keyshia really wanted to say.” In a smart move, Keyshia and her people quickly released another song “Long Way Down” to cover the underperforming single, and she is so far satisfied with fans’ response. “People are gravitating more toward [the song],” she stated. This week, Cole talked about recording her new album and its emphasis on love.

“I recorded half the album before I met my fiancé, and so I was not really that optimistic about finding true love,” Cole said about meeting Cleveland Cavalier Daniel Gibson. “And then after we met, I finished the record, which created a whole ‘nother outlook on life,” she laughed. “So that’s why I named it Calling All Hearts … because I feel like it was both sides: heartbreak and the happiness of the heart.” (MTV)

Last March, Cole welcomed the birth of her first child with NBA star Daniel Gibson.

Congratulations go out to singer Keyshia Cole and her fiance Daniel “Boobie” Gibson! Insiders tell me that just after 1am this morning (March 3rd), Keyshia gave birth to a healthy baby boy, the couple’s first. Gibson, a basketball player with the Cleveland Cavs, was by Keyshia’s side for the birth, which took place in Cleveland, OH. (Miss Info TV)
