Top Dawg Ent.’s Schoolboy Q is expected to lead the charge with his new album dropping in February.
Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron has locked in a release date. Initially, Q was aiming for a January 2012 release, but has now confirmed through a short video that he’ll be dropping the project on February 25. Lead singles “Collard Greens” with Kendrick Lamar and “Banger (Moshpit)” have build significant buzz for the project. (XXL Mag)
Recently, K. Dot proclaimed fellow TDE labelmate Jay Rock was in a class all by himself.
“Rock always been big brother, Rock always had that ‘urrgh.’ So when we got on the mic with Rock, you already know what time it is,” Kendrick told MTV News of the collaborations between him and his TDE labelmates Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q. “You gotta do what you gotta do, because he’s gonna smash it and I’m glad that the world is finally recognizing it because he is a problem for sure.” “We competitive. We’re so competitive in the studio we would sit there and really go at, so going at it on the outside skirts — people that’s outside of the family, that’s nothing because we’re really going in on each other inside there,” Lamar said of the group’s internal motivations. Last month, Schoolboy reflected on his crew’s success and following behind Lamar.
“I always say that too, Kendrick is like, way ahead of us. He’s a platinum artist. I haven’t dropped my album yet, you know what I’m saying? Rock’s working on his major label album, Ab-Soul‘s still working on his major label album — so honestly, at the same time, at the end of the day, I mean, he is f*cking Kendrick Lamar. You’re signed to the biggest artist right now. Hopefully I can do that too. It’s all about proving yourself at the end of the day. At the same time, I’m not signed to Kendrick and Black Hippy is us four and not Kendrick Lamar with Black Hippy. It’s four people, not three.” (MTV)
