Music publication Rolling Stone confirmed the LP’s title in a new cover feature.

We photographed him for the cover in Hollywood (see video from the shoot below) and visited him at his L.A. studio, where he was scrambling to finish his upcoming album, To Pimp a Butterfly, which is due March 24th. Although he was anxious, Lamar said he loves the recording process: “After [the album] comes out, it’s just a numbers game. The funnest part is making it.” (Rolling Stone)

K. Dot released the must-see artwork via his Instagram page early Wednesday (March 11).

After admitting he could not reveal the title yet or else TDE head Anthony Tiffith would get at him, K. Dot recently revealed timing played a big role in the LP’s completion.

“I had to turn that album in,” Lamar revealed. “I was on a deadline, on the clock. [The Grammys?] It’s crazy, as a kid I never thought of no Grammy. As a kid, writing raps that was way over my head. Just to be accomplished with any award it can be BET awards or anything, it’s a compliment to me.” (iHeart Radio)

Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony Tiffith hopped onto his Twitter page to confirm K. Dot’s big March 23 release date last Friday (March 6).

Following K. Dot’s announcement, labelmates Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock and SZA showed support on Twitter for the new LP.

    • yeah…if you’re into topless cats being all over each other, then yep….its dope

      • I think it’s more so about what he is trying to say by putting the white baby in the middle of it all; in front of the white house. It is actually pretty profound.

  1. Wack title, interesting cover (not sure what his angle is), hope the album is dope.

    • agreed. i havent really understood him in interviews lately. but im sure the content of the album wont disappoint!

    • I think “To Pimp a Caterpillar” might’ve been a better way to get the point across. The man seems to be trying to say that people can be molded into what you want them to be if you systematically keep them in a certain environment and condition them to be a certain way. I’ve seen your posts before so I know you’re wise enough to see the angle eventually.

  2. gotta love how hiphop is now,,,judge the dopeness(b4 hearing it) of the album based on the cover,,and drake an Kendrick aren’t in the same category,,same era,,not same subject matter,,approach,,or background etc..

  3. Why do people bring up Drake all the time on Kendrick Lamar’s posts? I don’t get it. Is it like that Jay Z and Nas thing?

    • because they’re both on top of the game right now, has nothing to do with Nas or Hov.

      • What I was highlighting was that some hip-hop “fans” have an apparent need to put the people who they think are on top and point out their blatant differences in an attempt to pick sides. e.g. Drake and Jay Z are typically labeled in the “commercially successful because of xyz” category. And Kendrick Lamar and Nas in the “less commercially successful because of xyz” category. Some people then find it impossible to be “fans” of both artists because in their minds it has to be one or the other.
