If things go his way, Lamar will show the entire world just how much of an all-around entertainer he is on Saturday, January 26th.

“Yeah, I’ll do a skit. We clown around in the studio all day; I can do it on TV in front of the camera,” Kendrick told MTV News before making an on-camera pitch to the show’s producers: “Put me in one of those skits ‘SNL’! Wassup?” On Saturday, the Compton, California, rap star will be holding down the “SNL” fort for the first time with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, who will serve as the show’s host. For Lamar, the look will open him up to a broader audience, and he marveled at the idea of performing on the long-running sketch comedy show. (MTV)

Regardless of whether he scores a skit or not, Kendrick said he is excited to do what he does best on the celebrated sketch comedy show.

“‘SNL,’ that’s a whole ‘nother world, especially for a new artist in hip-hop. I’m blessed,” he said. “I’m fortunate to not only have the urban culture to be looking at my music, but just everybody around the world to feel the same way about it. And I just really appreciate everybody taking the time out to listen.” (MTV)

Last summer, Odd Future’s Frank Ocean unveiled his vocal skills on “SNL.”

You’ve heard the announcement, seen the (awkward) promo clip , and now you can finally enjoy Frank Ocean ‘s debut performance on Saturday Night Live, given you missed the initial broadcast last night. The Odd Future crooner helped to kick off the long-running show’s 34th season with an impassioned set. Perched in front of a faux arcade, kitted out in his usual Aztec sweater and bandana, Ocean gave delicious renditions of “Thinkin Bout You” and “Pyramids,” both from his recent channel ORANGE album. As promised , John Mayer lended his services on the guitar, and helped to complete another fine performance from one of music’s most polarizing talents. (Prefix Mag)

Two years ago, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj helped break show records with a few sketches.

Nicki Minaj’s appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this past weekend was a major success for the Young Money rapper, boosting the famed sketch comedy show to its second highest ratings of the season. Saturday’s show scored an average 3.2 rating with 18-49-year-olds in 25 markets, tying with the Sept. 25 season premiere and coming in second only to the Jan. 8 show, which was hosted by sketch comedy legend Jim Carrey.
