Heading into the weekend, K. Dot treated fans to his new “Sing About Me” music video.

He rides through his city, while artist Eddie Peake creates a mural using lyrics from the song. The video opens with the following message: “When the lights shut off, an artist’s dream is that their work will stand the test of time. The ones that influence our culture are the ones we most remember. Here, two powerful creative forces come together to elevate the status quo and lay ground to their legacy. This is their poetry. Sing about them. This is part one.” Kendrick has a smile on his face as he performs a freestyle with the artwork in the background. Part 2 of their visual collaboration will drop in January. A few days ago, Kendrick jumped onto his Twitter page to announce he would be performing at next month’s Grammy Awards show.

“Jan. 26, 8pm. I’m performing @TheGRAMMYs on @CBSTweet #GRAMMYs,” Lamar tweeted December 19. (Kendrick Lamar’s Twitter)

Asked for his reaction to landing handfuls of Grammy nominations last weekend, K. Dot used the opportunity to thank various outlets.

“It feels great. I got some of the best fans, some of the best family, the best radio stations supporting me, and that’s who I owe it to at the end of the day. I need that love [to win]. That album is a really raw album, it’s not too much crossover. So for them to even put it in that light, that’s a win by itself. So if I take it home that’s even more of a crazy feeling.” (Power 106 FM)

Recently, Cash Money’s Busta Rhymes spoke on Kendrick picking up so many nominations.

“I’m happy for Kendrick. I really believe he deserves his seven nominations, man. I’m happy for Jay Z. I think he deserves his nine nominations. I think Drake should have got more nominations and I think Kanye should have got more nominations because, I think especially Kanye, he made a brave album. I’m a fan of the dude. I think he could really rap. I just think that overall, the nominations for the Grammys was powerful.” (“The Rickey Smiley Show”)
