Top Dawg Entertainment’s Kendrick Lamar has made a rare social media appearance to speak on putting out his instant classic Black Panther The Album soundtrack.

K. Dot took to Twitter last night (February 11) to reflect on putting together a star-studded soundtrack for the upcoming Marvel Studios release.

The newly released Black Panther The Album studio effort is set to do monster numbers.

Although its curators would prefer you didn’t call it a soundtrack, the Black Panther album—crafted by Kendrick Lamar, Top Dawg and team to accompany the wildly anticipated Marvel blockbuster, which hits theaters in one week—has arrived, in tandem with an official ST (for the latest steamy installment in the Fifty Shades franchise). Black Panther (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) 110-120k total activity, 35-40k album 50 Shades Freed (Republic) 50-60k, 30-40k (Hits Daily Double)

Last week, Kendrick Lamar and his Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate SZA released their “All The Stars” Black Panther The Album music video.

A huge component for the upcoming flick’s massive popularity is how much social media attention it has received.

All three key movie feeds for Black Panther, on Facebook, Twitter and especially on Instagram popped by 10x on Tuesday from the premiere adding 25K new fans on the day, up from 2K a day. Chadwick Boseman’s Instagram spiked, adding 26,7K new fans yesterday as well. Views on YouTube are spread across owned and earned clocking over 6M views over 48-hours. Compared to other Marvel titles, Black Panther, as a first in a franchise, is tracking ahead of the Social Media Universe of other Marvel sequel openers with a 741 million SMU versus Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (607M SMU), Captain America: Civil War (599M SMU) and Thor: Ragnarok (560M SMU) when they opened.
