Stars Get The Call

In September, the super bowl announced that Dr.Dre, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar will perform at halftime at the Super Bowl sponsored by Pepsi. The news was a surprise to hip-hop fans after a few years of major stars ditching the Super Bowl over social justice protests.

The wait is nearly over as a trailer for the commercial, titled “The Call,” which takes place on a massive gold chessboard as each star is interrupted by a phone call.

The commercial begins with Eminem in a dark lab coat playing with floating lyrics in a rap battle against his younger alter ego, Slim Shady.

Snoop Dogg, who has been teasing fans to expect an epic halftime show, comes into the picture leading a parade of jumping coups and stunting whips as “The Next Episode” blasts from his speakers.

Mary J Blige, looking flawless in the scene, is priming up to drop her new album just in time for the Super Bowl.

Kendrick Lamar, who will be winding down his music career in 2022 to make movies, is shown sitting at a table writing lyrics before throwing the papers into the air in frustration as “Be Humble” plays in the background.

At the end of the commercial, Dr Dre – who is making some of his best music ever since his recent divorce – is seen walking along a beach as “Still Dre” serenades him.  All of the five stars would eventually meet up and walk in formation toward Sofi Stadium as the Super Bowl LVI crowd roars inside.
