Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West is gearing up for a potential family feud. New reports claim Yeezy’s plans to launch his own cosmetic line could put him in direct competition with sister-in-law Kylie Jenner.
Ye’s reportedly filed an application to have a new makeup line started in honor of his late mother Donda West.
Kanye’s filed legal docs declaring his intention to produce DONDA brand makeup, perfumes, lotions and other cosmetics. Donda, of course, is Kanye’s beloved mom who passed away in 2007. He’ll be up against some stiff family competition. Kylie’s cosmetics sell out within minutes … some resell on eBay for 10 times the retail value. Kanye’s application to snag the DONDA cosmetics line is currently being processed but our sources say at this time he’s only filed the paperwork in case something develops. (TMZ)
Over the past few months, Jenner’s cosmetics line has continued to flourish.
This news comes not long after the star’s sister-in-law, who is a power player in the makeup market with her bestselling brand Kylie Cosmetics, caused pandemonium with the opening of her N.Y.C. pop-up shop and announced Wednesday she plans on adding Kylighters to her makeup collection. West’s wife Kim and her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian also have their toes in the beauty world as well, with their line of hair products for Kardashian Beauty. (People)
Last year, Ye lashed out over Kylie ditching a potential adidas partnership to work with competitor PUMA.
His willingness to step on Jenner’s turf is notable, considering West angrily ranted against Jenner signing a deal with Puma — an Adidas competitor — on an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” last summer. “It’s like if I made a show Sunday night, and didn’t tell any of you all about it, but I did a couple shows with y’all (first),” West fumed on the show. “So people saw me and were all, ‘Ah, he’s cool on camera.’ And somebody offered me a deal, and I, like, did it and didn’t tell none of y’all, and brought all my cool friends.” (NY Daily News)
