[After making a name for himself in the music industry for his time at Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and working with hip-hop’s biggest artists, veteran executive John Monopoly talks to SOHH about his upcoming The Go ILL Major Label A&R Showcase in Chicago.]
My ultimate goal is to develop this into a series we do once or twice a year to even more than that. I don’t really have a vision as to how many times we do this. I think it’s more so about putting myself in a position to supply the demand so if we have to do this three or four times a year, I have the resources.
The entertainment industry, and bringing in executives from different companies, it’s really to help educate my people. We’ll see how many [events] we do and I think the response has been incredible.
It seemed like after talking to a few potential clients from the city, the real want is to have relationships with A&Rs that could buy songs, beats and even potentially sign them to some kind of a record deal.
That degree of connectivity is there. That’s why I decided to really try to fill that void and I’m looking forward to it.
I’ve had executives reach out to me over the last couple days, saying they want to be involved and a part of the event.
This is really a test to see what the market wants. I knew there was some desire and demand, but I had no idea how many people really wanted to get involved from an executive standpoint.
It’s been great. We’re going to keep building and putting on for our city.
