Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West might have to call up his legal muscle thanks to a TIDAL subscriber who joined the streaming platform off his recent co-sign.

According to reports, plaintiff has taken action against Yeezy for promising to only release his The Life Of Pablo album on TIDAL back in February.

Justin Baker-Rhett says that was enough to get him to sign up for Tidal — and it worked on 2 million other Yeezus fans who also bought subscriptions. In his class action lawsuit, he says the bump saved the floundering service because the new users added $84 million to Tidal’s bottom line. He’s suing Kanye and Tidal for damages. (TMZ)

Recent reports revealed Ye’s new album had reached nearly 100 million streams since its mass release in early April.

Although sales will likely account for a minuscule piece of his total (The Life of Pablo is for sale only on his website), Kanye West may be a contender for #1 on our next Sales + Plus Streaming (SPS) chart. Since going wide to Spotify, Apple Music and other services last week, preliminary data suggests Pablo (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) is on track for some 90m streams, which would put him at 60k+ SEA. A few days prior, Kanye boasted about his album’s wide release on Twitter.

Def Jam also recently weighed-in on the new album’s mass availability.

“In the months to come, Kanye will release new updates, new versions, and new iterations of the album,” the rapper’s label, Def Jam, said in a statement. “An innovative, continuous process, the album will be a living, evolving art project. The Life of Pablo has truly taken on a life of its own.” (MTV)

  1. he should be charged using our money to save jay z and his multi million $ baby wheres my donation

  2. He deserves a refund. Kanye and TIDAL flat out lied. They were wrong for that. However, it’s shit like this that makes the rest of the planet look at the west like the head-in-the-sand, ignorant jackasses that we are. This muhfucka’s life has zero real world problems if he puts this much energy into a lawsuit over a voluntary fucking music streaming service. We’re talking about a rap album here. I want this muhfucka to experience something real, like cancer or something. Anything to get him some perspective. Douche bag smh.

  3. ummm it was a free 30 subscription and they extended an additional 30 days for anyone who joined .
