Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West's Air Yeezy 2 sneakers have reportedly sold out in cities like Detroit and Motor City native Nik White explains his motivation behind to wait in line for days to get his own pair.
According to White, a passion for collecting rare kicks ultimately fueled his patient 72-hour wait.
How long would you wait in line to get your hands on the new $1,000 “Air Yeezy” sneakers designed by rapper Kanye West? Detroiter Nik White has his answer. He got in line at downtown Royal Oak’s Burn Rubber Shoe Boutique Tuesday for the shoes that went on sale Saturday. He was among many metro Detroiters who waited in line for days to get their hands on the kicks. The popular sneakers sold out within an hour of going on sale. WWJ spoke with White just as he was about to get his three pairs of Air Yeezy’s. “If you collect shoes, you want to have the style that are harder to find … it’s more the value, whether you keep it or trade it, sell it – whatever – it’s the value of it,” said White. G.O.O.D. Music’s Hit-Boy recently admitted he does not even have his own set yet.
“Man, he told me he was going to give me some, but I didn’t really press the issue. So I don’t have none as of now,” Hit-Boy said in an interview when asked about getting laced with a pair. “[$90,000 eBay bid?] Yeah, I know. That was ridiculous, right?” (Vulture)
Reports of a $90,000 bid for the Air Yeezy 2 kicks circulated online a few days ago.
Bidding for one pre-ordered pair of Kanye West’s Air Yeezy 2 sneakers have reached $90,100 on eBay. Though hip hop artist, Kanye West, has been wearing the shoes for months, the official release date for the Nike shoes is June 9, 2012. They retail for $245. (ABC News)
The limited supply of Air Yeezy 2’s also spiked the sense of urgency among buyers.
Ye has been rocking his sneakers for months now, spurring public demand. However, in this case, demand will surpass supply: Nike says it will only release between 3,000-5,000 pairs of the limited edition sneakers. The official release date for the Nike shoes is Saturday, June 9th, but fans have been lined up outside select retail locations across the country since last week. (Philly)
