G.O.O.D. Music leader Kanye West has once again addressed his now-infamous MTV Video Music Awards 2009 interruption of country singer Taylor Swift.
According to Yeezy, his outburst had a lot more to do with the politics of the awards ceremony.
“That situation, it’s not about [Kanye] and Taylor Swift, it’s about – I’m not going to mention no politicians’ names. I’m just saying there’s a lot of people in America that feel like they don’t have a platform to stand up and express their thoughts on racism. Now before they had that platform, one really easy way to express it was to say, ‘F Kanye West.’ We were brought over here as unpaid interns. Lincoln turned us into assistants. Soon as Britney [Spears] shaved her head and they saw that money going down, they already marked where that award was going that night. They ain’t expect no activist that had just lost his mom a year later sitting there with a bottle of Hennessey. The only reason why I drunk the Hennessy in the first place was because I thought I’m gonna have to get drunk to deal with all the lies I’m gonna have to see.” (“Steve Harvey Morning Show”)
Last month, Swift talked about the now-infamous incident and no longer wanting to entertain the feud.
“I think the world is so bored with the saga,” Swift said. “I don’t want to add anything to it, because then there’s just more.” (Vogue)
Recently, Ruff Ryders producer Swizz Beatz said Yeezy wanted people to abruptly react to Kanye going at Swift on his “Famous” song.
“That’s what Kanye wanted to do,” he said. “If he didn’t get that reaction, something would be wrong. You know the lights are on and it’s showtime when you get that reaction, like, ‘Oh, that’s Kanye. Here we go.'” (Business Insider)
Footage of Yeezy saying Swift gave him the green light for his “Famous” lyric surfaced online earlier this year.
