Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West is reportedly playing smart ball in his publicized paparazzo assault case by claiming his father previously had an affilation with the photo-snapping group.
According to reports, Ye made the revelation about his dad’s past occupancy in relation to recent legal proceedings.
During deposition for the suit filed by Daniel Ramos … Kanye told Ramos’ attorney, “My father was a paparazzo himself.” He added that his parents didn’t raise him to “be out here wrestling with random paparazzi in front of LAX.” Kanye said he respects some of the paparazzi and gets along with them from time to time, but accused Ramos of asking him about “dumb s**t.” (TMZ)
Reports earlier this month revealed Mr. West admitted he feared losing daughter North West to a paparazzo-controlling drone.
“Is your daughter stalked by like drones? Are there drones flying where she’s trying to learn how to swim at age 1? Wouldn’t you like to just teach your daughter how to swim without a drone flying? What happens if a drone falls right next to her? Would it electrocute her? Could it fall and hit her if that paparazzi doesn’t understand how to remote control the drone over their house?” (TMZ)
Recently, Kanye opened up about his stance toward paparazzi.
“Yeah. I’m a blowfish. I’m not a shark, I’m a blowfish. So that perfect example about me hitting my head, it’s like a blowfish. I wasn’t coming out of my house going to a paparazzi’s house to attack them. I’m defending my family in front of my own house. I’m defending my name as someone’s screaming something negative at me. That’s a blowfish. People have me pinned as a shark or a predator in some way, and in no way am I that. I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone. I want to defend people. I want to help people.” (GQ)
Last year, Kanye said the paparazzi could serve as a premium outlet to get messages out to the public.
“They help me to influence. At any point, if I want to talk directly to the public, I can use that outlet too,” Kanye explained in an interview. “I should be respected to the highest level at this point for what I’ve been able to accomplish at this age.” (“Big Boy’s Neighborhood”)
