John Legend is cashing in on his body of work, becoming one of the latest artists to sell the rights to their music.
John Legend Sells Entire Music Catalog
According to reports, John Legend is taking a leap and selling the rights to every song he made between 2004 and 2021. The singer and songwriter sold all of his copyrights and publishing to KKR & Co. and BMG. This deal reportedly took place in September 2021.
A plethora of artists, including Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, and James Brown, have been selling parts of their catalogs. Hip-hop artists including Timbaland and RZA have sold the rights to some of their songs and Lil Wayne sold a bunch of his and Young Money artists’ masters.

New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne made some business deals in 2019. In addition to selling his own masters, he also cashed in on his Young Money roster‘s releases. The deal reportedly included almost all of Nicki’s releases and most of Drake’s releases up until 2018, which is when he founded his own OVO label.
