[SOHH highlights a hot record every week and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the smash in Singled Out. After Lecrae broke down his "All I Need Is You," Slaughterhouse's Joell Ortiz decodes his "House Slippers" anthem.]
Well, “House Slippers” was the first thing I wrote for the album.
I felt like I didn’t want to start on a body of work and come back and then think ‘What am I going to do for it for an intro?’ I felt like, I was very honest and up front with what’s been going on with me, and that this would be the perfect intro to an album that has been waited on for such a long time with my fans.
I wanted to just bring everybody up to speed where I was personally. I made a lot of changes to my life, on a health kick.
I lost a ton of weight, I stopped drinking for two years. I stopped smoking cigarettes altogether. I started seeing things very clearly and this healthy mindset and I just wanted people to catch up – this is what’s been going on, the label situation and Slaughterhouse, just everything in-between the last release, my Free Agent album, that was released in 2010.
It’s been a long time, it’s been four years. It’s like a summary of what’s been going and what’s about to happen. I just feel like it was the perfect track to lead off the album, it self explains the situation and the world I now exist in.
