Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has stepped forward to speak on capturing America's attention this week by inviting Kanye West onto his broadcast to end their public rift following a recent parody clip.
In Jimmy’s opinion, Kanye’s appearance on the show came from him being able to reach out and set it up.
“Yeah. I think [Kanye] said it best. I think he said that he reads and sees a lot of things that frustrate him, and the difference is that in this case he was able to call me, whereas he isn’t able to call TMZ or whatever it is that bothers him. And I have to say, I did relate to a lot of the things that he said. Personally, I went through many situations where people hold what you’re good at against you. I was a very good producer when I was on the radio, and I’d write comedy for the guys I worked with. And because I was very good at it, the general managers at radio stations I worked at told me I was a behind-the-scenes guy, and I shouldn’t be on the microphone. I should be behind the scenes, supporting the guys on the mic. And, y’know, I wind up hosting a network television show. And I remind those guys of that every time I see them, as much as I possibly can. So I can see how he’s frustrated. I don’t know anything about fashion. I don’t know who’s good at it, who’s not good at it. For all I know he could be the greatest or the worst fashion designer in the world. But I do understand that frustration.” (Grantland)
Kimmel also acknoweldged Ye’s decision to rid his Twitter page of the original disses and controversial tweets.
“Y’know, he took down his tweets. And I felt like that was a conciliatory move. And then I sent him an e-mail, and we exchanged a couple of e-mails, and that was that. And then he sent me an e-mail saying he’d like to come on the show and talk about it. So we worked it so we could get him on Wednesday. Don Rickles had just canceled, so it all worked out.” (Grand Land)
During his appearance Wednesday (October 9) night, Mr. West made sure to explain what really irked him about the show’s parody of his recent heartfelt BBC Radio 1 interview.
“Jimmy does his thing. I do my thing. At a certain point, these egos can flare up. We kind of just took it to high school a little bit,” Kanye explained. “If you guys look at the Zane [Lowe] interview, it’s really something extremely fearless for someone in my position to do. Most people bow down to TV, or bow down to these cameras. I could care less about any of these cameras, in all honesty. All I care about is my family. I care about protecting my girl, protecting my baby and protecting my ideas and my dreams and that’s the reason why I went so crazy.” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live!”)
Yeezy also used the opportunity to boast about how much of a genius he is.
“I’m not running for office. I’m just here to make good music and make people feel good when they hear my music. When I did that interview, I was really vocal about a lot of the things I’ve been dealing with over the past ten years, in classification of just a celebrity, because for me, I’m a creative genius,” Ye added. “There’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself. I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive. I want to bring more things to the world. Asked for a take on Kimmel poking fun at rap pal Yeezy during his recent in-depth interview with BBC Radio 1, Miami rapper Rick Ross had a less than friendly response.
“I really didn’t watch all the interview. I just saw some of the Jimmy Kimmel sh*t. F*ck Jimmy Kimmel. You know we riding with the culture. So, Jimmy Kimmel he ain’t welcome here no more. You understand it? People who cross that line they not welcome no more. But as far as Kanye, I just love his passion. And I feel anybody that love what they do you gotta respect someone that is that passionate about what they do because homie a hundred mill you can just sit back and really don’t give a f*ck, but he actually cares about the culture. He puts that much passion into it.” (MTV)
