Dipset's Jim Jones has finally addressed the delayed Diplomat reunion album and what has stalled the project since him and Cam'ron joined forces again in early 2010.

Despite initial plans to drop the project as early as 2010, Jones said the Dipset’s individual ventures have slowed down the group effort.

“Currently in motion, we been working . . . it hasn’t been going as fast as we’d like it to go because everybody got so much business that they’re doing aside from where we left it,” Jones said about the current state of the Diplomats album, before taking to the basketball court of a Downtown Manhattan, NY middle school with his “Jones Family” squad as part of MTV2 and Converse’s Band of Ballers event. “But we definitely been locking in. Shout outs to Cam, shout outs to Juelz, shout outs to Freekey Zekey. Everybody’s on board.” (XXL Mag)

In December, Jones said the project was still underway.

“It’s going down, believe that,” Jones said about the LP. “We’re still recording songs but you don’t have to worry, the Dipset album is happening big time. You can bet your last dollar. I wouldn’t say officially [we’re on Interscope], officially is a big word–shouts to Interscope, Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre and everybody on that side. Just sit tight. We got a joint called ‘Anticipation’ that y’all should love. The vibe is good just being back with my band of brothers.” (VIBE)

Dipset A&R Duke Da God previously discussed the Diplomats’ split ties with independent distributor E1 and alignment with a major label.

“I think we outgrew E1. We did that when it wasn’t popular to go that route. We were innovators. Now we need to get it right. We need to touch the whole world. If we had a marketing budget of $200,000 on Koch, we need a $1 million to $1.5 million budget, so we can touch everybody. Our marketing budget wasn’t big enough at the time…There are so many avenues like radio and TV and [they’re more expensive]. It’s all about business, like with anything. You get what you pay for. You have to spend the money to get the proper listeners. Nothing is free. All them looks that you get, that you see major artists get, those aren’t free looks because they like the record. Just because Beyonce comes out with a record, it doesn’t mean everybody’s going to play it. It takes marketing dollars to get sh*t off the ground. All that sh*t you see on TV, those aren’t free looks. You have to pay to get those looks. When you’re in the game you see that though.” (Hip Hop Game)

Last summer, Cam’ron said the delayed LP was due to multiple solo ventures in the works.

“It’s a few people that’s been getting at us, but the money’s not really where we want it to be,” Cam said in an interview regarding label negotiations. “So we’d rather distribute it ourselves until somebody comes with the right amount of money. Jim is using the ‘Salute’ record as his single, so we’ll build off of that. But basically, with the Diplomat thing, everybody is gonna do it, but we got obligations. Jim got his album he definitely gotta turn in…[Me and Vado] got this Gunz and Butta thing. Juelz is putting his album together. Nobody wants to stop where they already have contracts and obligations, but we working too. We got eight, nine songs done.” (MTV)
