Country star Taylor Swift delves into her career, notably her publicized tensions toward rap star Kanye West after the MTV Video Music Awards 2009, in a new Vanity Fair interview.

Within her feature, Swift credits Kanye’s close pal Jay Z for helping bring them together.

“I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me—so it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time,” Swift says. “I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along. . . . And then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing.” (Vanity Fair)

Back in April, Swift denied rumors about hooking up with Kanye for some studio sessions.

“He has said that,” Taylor answered when ET’s Cameron Mathison asked about the status of the potential new tune. “We’ve never been in a studio together, but, he’s got a lot of amazing ideas. … He’s one of those people that’s just like idea, idea, idea. He’s very creative and — I think we’ve talked about it but we’ve also talked about so many other things… I completely respect him as a producer. So, that’s all I know now.” (ET Online)

Pictures of Kanye and Taylor having dinner at New York City’s The Spotted Pig emerged earlier this year.

Yeezy and T-Swizzle were careful not to arrive or leave the restaurant together on Tuesday night, but they reportedly ate at a table for two. The unlikely alliance began at the Grammys when they reunited for a photo. Since then Kanye’s said Taylor wants to do a song with him, and this dinner date definitely makes it seem more likely. Kanye recently revealed plans to hook up with the country star.

“Yeah, she wants to get in the studio and we’re definitely going to go in. Any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get in the studio and work. I don’t discriminate, I don’t have an elitism of music because of like how many Grammys or you know, the amount of ratings you get on an album. I that think everyone loves music whether they love hip-hop, alternative, country, and if I could be involved in giving people any type of energy, advice in the studio, whether you’re Beyonce, whether you’re Taylor Swift, whether you’re Jay Z, whether you’re Beck, whoever, and they can be reciprocal with that, I’d like to be involved with that.” (“Ryan Seacrest”)
