Def Jam’s Jeezy recently discussed his publicized feud with one-time CTE signee Freddie Gibbs and revealed how much effort he put into trying to make his protégé a superstar. #jeezytalks
In Jeezy’s opinion, he gave Gibbs notable opportunities throughout their short stint together.
“I put him on a song with Eminem. I put him on a song with T.I. I put him on numerous mixtapes that I had. I took him on tour. Took him around the world. I spent money on videos that he didn’t use cause he didn’t like em. And it wasn’t his money. So, at the end of the day my whole thing was to him was ‘I took you to every label in the game. They don’t wanna sign you. I don’t have no reason–I love you. … I think your music is dope, but they don’t want to sign you.'” (“The Truth”)
The “Snowman” also revealed what conversation may have sparked tensions with Freddie.
“So, at the end of the day when I called him up I was like ‘Yo, I can’t really spend my money on you. I got family, other sh*t I gotta take care of. So, I’ll help you all I can, but I can’t fund it anymore.’ Cool. Conversation went well. We got off the conversation it was straight, love. I hear diss records. What I’m supposed to do? I’m not replying to that. Nigga, we getting money…At the end of the day we all tried. It didn’t work. That shit happens in business all the time.” (“The Truth”)
Earlier this year, Freddie admitted he wanted Jeezy to man up and issue an apology over doing him dirty in the past.
“I’ll beat his a** in my church shoes,” Gibbs says, but he’s half joking. “If he just apologized it’d be all over with. It’s not that deep.”) “That’s one of the only mistakes of my career,” he says about his signing to CTE. “I loved Jeezy so much, diehard fan. I looked at the musical possibilities–if we were together, d*mn, we would make such great music. (Noisey)
Gibbs also said he would continue name-dropping the “Snowman” until Jeezy spoke out over the winter.
“Of course he don’t know what he doing. Hell nah, he don’t know what the f*ck he doing. And I’mma stay on his punk a** till he say something about it. I’mma keep drilling his punk a** into the ground. … I don’t just got people around me sucking my d*ck. That’s his problem, too many f*cking yes-men, not telling you the real. I made mine in this game.” (Grantland)
