Music mogul Jay Z‘s growing TIDAL streaming service and a big rumor about tech giant Samsung looking to purchase it has been dissolved.

According to a Samsung representative, the company is not going after the popular entertainment service.

“The rumor of Samsung acquiring Tidal is not true,” said Samsung spokesperson, breaking the company’s silence on the matter. This comes after months of reports about conversations between the two companies. (Variety)

Last week reports claimed Samsung had its eyes on acquiring TIDAL.

Samsung, which is expected to have a big presence at this year’s Oscars, has long been rumored as an interested buyer — and has held on-and-off talks with Tidal. “Samsung is re-engaging; they are working on something really big, and they’re keeping it very quiet in case it leaks,” said a source close to the talks. Recent reports claimed rap star Kanye West helped increase the number of TIDAL subscribers after exclusively releasing his new The Life Of Pablo album on its service.

Sources connected to Tidal tell TMZ … “The Life of Pablo” and its debut at MSG has already been streamed millions of times in less than two weeks, which is a record for the service. We’re also told subscribers to the app have more than doubled from around 1 million to 2.5 million. In fact, we’re told the album’s been so successful his team is discussing plans for another release, which may include a physical copy. (TMZ)

Last month, Kanye vowed his loyalty to streaming service TIDAL and promised to never put the album out for sale.

  1. duh? Its a strategy…..talk about some meetings you have had with a big name company hype it up and the it doesn’t go through other companies will be interested because if a big name company was talking with you and declined maybe we should see what the offer is. Business 101…
