Music mogul JAY-Z might low-key be getting the last laugh on his former rival Nas. The hip-hop icon’s wife Beyoncé’s Lion King: The Gift album is expected to outsell Nasir Jones’ new The Lost Tapes 2.
Based on early estimates, Queen Bey’s new project is slated to top the sales chart.
Despite likely missing out on a top spot, Nas’ new LP is jam-packed with major production.
Nas released his The Lost Tapes 2 album this week via Mass Appeal/Def Jam featuring songs that did not make the cut on his past few LPs. It features production from RZA, Pharrell, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, No I.D., Pete Rock, Hit-Boy and more. The New York legend’s album is on pace to do 17-20k copies (5-7k pure sales) which is much lower than we anticipated. (Hip Hop-N-More)
This week, Bey treated fans to her must-see, new “Spirit” music video premiere.
Last year, rap star 50 Cent suggested JAY released his and Bey’s Everything Is Love album as a surprise to low-key outsell Nas’ NASIR LP.
“That was fcked up what they did to Nas. That was fcked up. I know what you did to Nas, JAY. That’s fcked up, ngga. Nah, he come out on the same weekend. This ngga still slapping him without everybody noticing what’s going on. Not everybody knows what’s going on. But that was still like, ‘Oh, when is your sht coming out? My sht coming out.’ I ain’t heard not one of those records on the radio. [laughs] Why the fck you do that, man? I be saying, ‘Fck that, I do whatever the fck I do,’ and they be looking at me like I’m grimey for doing that. This nggabe super quiet doing some real grimey sht. Looking to see if anybody noticed the grimey sh*t. He just has a different way of doing things.”
