Roc Nation protégé J. Cole has finally stepped forward to clear the air on getting put on blast by teenage rapper Diggy Simmons back in April and laughed off beef talk.

Rather than take the matter seriously, Cole pointed out who his perceived rap nemesis is at the end of the day.

“There’s nothing going on. I’m not even thinking about it,” Cole said in an interview with DJ Drama. “What am I gonna go beat Diggy up? It’s not gonna happen. It’s Diggy Simmons, just remember this. He’s good, he’s talented, but he’s a kid. I was really surprised when people were making that an issue. That’s not the type of beef you want to be involved in.” (Drama Like The DJ)

Last month, G-Unit’s DJ Whoo Kid laughed off the notion of a Cole/Diggy beef.

“People always look at lyrics but lyrics got to have personal touches on it. Right now, the funniest sh*t I ever seen is J. Cole versus Diggy. I thought it was April Fool’s but like here we go again with the personal bullsh*t. Fact that there’s some so called rumor that J. Cole banged his sister and then came out five months later with a diss record, I don’t know what it’s coming to but we didn’t have Twitter, we didn’t have all this craziness back then,” Whoo Kid said in an interview. “It wasn’t being utilized the way it was then like it is now. Now you got pictures, photos, people getting knocked out. You got web sites, World Star, there’s so much ways of degrading an artist and it’s almost kinda like scary. Even to this day, I’m more scared of getting robbed on camera then anything. I’d rather somebody rob me on the low or keep it on the hush. I don’t want no visuals.” (VIBE)

A week prior, Diggy came forward to explain his leaked “What You Say To Me” diss track towards Cole.

“[There’s] no big story behind it, it was really just that my sister [Vanessa] over a year ago told me that [J. Cole] was saying that he did this, that and third with her, ‘cus they went to the same college, but they didn’t really know each other like that, so it wasn’t like that,” he said. “She also told me that he subliminally talked about her in a song called ‘Purple Rain,’ which was also false. So it was just me sticking up for my family, that’s all that it really was. I didn’t even leak it, it got leaked last night while I was at the movies…I did that record last year…I was gonna put it out, but I didn’t feel like it was appropriate, but of course, that’s my sister…family over everything. [My dad Reverend Run] had already heard the track and he was like the same thing: ‘Family over everything, that’s your sister,’ so he wasn’t mad at all.” (99.1 FM)

Days leading up to the interview, the rapper’s father also backed up his son’s decision to make the track.

“J Cole.. Puts out 2 records Dissing family & Diggy & nobody cared.. Some1 leaks a old Diggy record & there’s a problem?,” he tweeted April 1st. (Reverend Run’s Twitter)
