New York radio station Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg has spilled some details on J. Cole's upcoming Born Sinner album and said there is a particular track centered on an issue rap veteran Nas had with him.
According to the popular on-air personality, Nas revealed how upset he was after hearing Cole’s “Work Out” anthem back in 2011.
“J. Cole’s album is supposed to be dope. His production has supposedly improved quite a bit,” Rosenberg said during his morning show this week. “And here’s a tidbit I heard a while ago that’s pretty exciting. Supposedly, there’s a song on the J. Cole called something along the lines of, ‘I Disappointed Nas,’ about how Nas supposedly reached out to J. Cole after he heard ‘Workout,’ and was like, ‘Nah fam, I expected more from you from this.’ And supposedly J. Cole gets really personal and has a whole song about how it felt to have disappointed one of his heroes in music, Nas. The second I heard this, it got me incredibly antsy to hear this. I think that’s one of the things I’ve been wanting to really hear from J. Cole. It’s more of him and his story. So I need to hear that. His album comes out June 18th, I’ve heard nothing but good things. So let’s see if this song actually ends up being on the album. That’s what I heard, you can expect from J. Cole. A couple summers ago, the North Carolina native dropped his Cole World “Work Out” track.
As J. Cole previously promised on Ustream, once he got the sample cleared soon after fans would get his new single. That happened today, so here’s the first look, “Work Out” which samples Kanye West‘s “The New Workout Plan” with an interpolation of Paula Abdul‘s “Straight Up” on the two-year anniversary of his standout The Warm Up mixtape. Also see some people are confused about “Who Dat”, last year it was the single but as what happens a lot of times things change and a different direction is chosen, that’s hip hop. (Miss Info TV)
On his recently released “Cole Summer” track, Cole makes reference to a work-related issue he had with Roc Nation boss Jay-Z.
As he nears completion on his sophomore album, J. Cole takes a break from recording to remind us that he’s coming with heat this summer. On the soulful “Cole Summer,” the self-proclaimed “cheap ass ni**a” raps about throwing thousands in the strip club with Drake (“The difference is I’m throwing 4, he throwing 50”), Jay-Z’s orders to record with Stargate (“That shit was like detention now”), and dreams of Tia and Tamera Mowry. The cover is a reference to his mother, who used to work at the post office. “I told her quit her job, but hold your horses/ If my next album flop, it’s back to the post office, both of us,” he raps over a sample of Lauryn Hill‘s “Nothing Even Matters.” (Rap-Up)
