Playboi Carti’s new style over the past two years, has influenced many in both fashion and music. But NBA Youngboy’s new style has fans of both artists arguing about whether he’s looking to Carti for inspiration or blatant imitation.
NBA Youngboy, who always finds the headlines for his own style of music, has recently been called out by Carti fans, and his own fans, for biting the “Whole Lotta Red” rapper’s style.
In the song “Syracuse” that was recently leaked off NBA’s new collab project with DaBaby, “BETTER THAN YOU”, NBA uses an eerily similar rhyme scheme and of course, the high pitched “baby voice,” a trademark used by Carti in all of his projects, but most notably in his most recent album, Whole Lotta Red.
And is NBA biting Carti’s look too? When fans delved further into the comparisons between NBA Youngboy’s style and Carti, what they found didn’t really sit right with the two squads. More recently, Youngboy has come forward with his appreciation for wearing makeup, and more specifically dark makeup, another signature trademark of Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red Era.
So SOHH Squad, what do you guys think about NBA Youngboy’s style change? Is it Carti? Or pure coincidence?
