According to reports, the bust went down hours before a Thursday (March 26) performance.

Rapper Immortal Technique, known for the socially conscious messages in his songs, was arrested before a show in Santa Ana on Thursday on suspicion of attacking and robbing two men for selling shirts with his image and not sharing the profits. The 37-year-old rapper, whose real name is Felipe Andres Coronel, and Steven McDaniel, 40, of Mission Viejo, are accused of being part of a group of 10 to 12 people who confronted the street vendors outside the Observatory venue. Reports claim tensions arose after Technique’s camp realized the shirts had his signature trademark on them.

Two victims told police they were selling T-shirts with Immortal Technique’s trademarked logo on them. The rapper was slated to perform with Talib Kweli at the Observatory that evening, with doors opening at 7 p.m., according to the venue’s website. (KTLA)

A couple of music fans from his sold-out Thursday (March 26) night show shared their thoughts on the bust.

“Celebrities do make a lot of money compared to the common person. I’m pretty sure the people selling this stuff come from a low income background,” Jasmine Guillen said. “Oh. I love Immortal Technique. He should get a profit then,” Taylor Smith said. (NBC Los Angeles)

Immortal Technique remained in police custody until Friday (March 27) afternoon.

Coronel was released at 1:45 p.m. Friday, county inmate records showed. McDaniel, whose occupation was listed in inmate records as tour manager, was released a few minutes earlier. Immortal Technique was slated to perform in Tempe, Arizona, Friday evening. (Q13 Fox News)
