West Coast rapper Ice Cube talks about former rap crew N.W.A.‘s lyrical content, notably in relation to objectifying women, and why “upstanding” ladies should not take offense in a new Rolling Stone magazine feature.

In Cube’s perspective, critics should separate themselves from the labels N.W.A. used in their music for men and women.

“If you’re a b*tch, you’re probably not going to like us. If you’re a h*, you probably don’t like us. If you’re not a h* or a b*tch, don’t be jumping to the defense of these despicable females. Just like I shouldn’t be jumping to the defense of no punks or no cowards or no slimy son of a b*tches that’s men. I never understood why an upstanding lady would even think we’re talking about her.” (Rolling Stone)

TV icon Oprah Winfrey recently revealed how much she loved the long-awaited flick on Twitter last weekend.

Back in February, Ice Cube and fellow movie producer Dr. Dre appeared in the movie’s trailer.

In the film’s first full-length spot, we’re first treated to an introduction featuring Ice Cube and hip-hop’s first billionaire Dr. Dre, rolling around Compton as they reminisce on their formative years there and the talent (like The Game and Kendrick Lamar) that has come up in the years since. From there, we’re thrown back into the gritty mid-80s, amidst the drugs and violence that helped bring Ice Cube, Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella together. (The Verge)

Recently, Cube promised personal feelings had nothing to do with late rapper Eazy-E’s son not portraying his father.

“He’s an up-and-coming actor trying to do it but we needed somebody who was a little more polished to play Eazy, because he goes through a lot in his life. He goes from selling dope in Compton to fighting for his life in a hospital bed. So we needed to find an actor with a lot of range. And we just couldn’t use just anybody. We gave him a shot, and it just didn’t work out.” (KS 107.5)
