Music moguls Ice Cube and Dr. Dre recently shared his thoughts on their veteran status in hip-hop and what the new generation of artists should realize about the rap game.

Speaking to Top Dawg Entertainment’s Kendrick Lamar, Cube spoke on what rappers of K. Dot’s time frame should bring back to hip-hop.

“That’s tricky, man. An artist has to do it like he feels it — not because he should, or someone else says he should. Hip-hop got too focused on results and record sales. Sales have nothing to do with the art you create in the studio.” (Billboard)

Dre also dismissed the idea of doing music just for a paycheck.

“When we started out, it wasn’t for money. It was for the love of music. You treat her right, and she’ll treat you right. If your only aim is money, your time will be limited.” (Billboard)

According to reports, the Doc’s overnight Compton album release will push out at least 260,000 copies in week one.

Based on early reads, here are our initial forecasts for next week’s chart. Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights (Capitol Nashville): 325-340k albums; 340-355k SPS Dr. Dre’s Compton, A Soundtrack (Aftermath/Interscope): 260-275k albums; 290-305k SPS (30-50m streams) (HITS Daily Double)

Rap stars Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Game all reacted to Dre blessing the hip-hop game with his first studio release since 1999’s The Chronic 2001 last week.

  1. add in the fact that disliking blatant garbage became known as “hating”. that shit REALLY hurt the culture. some shit should be hated. people began to tolerate everything… 10 years later we in a world where faggots in dresses are on the mic and still being supported. #FUCKSHIT

  2. It resulted in them taking the art and creativity out. Now all you get is repetitive songs over and over with neggas talking about, “Don’t hate on me!…..*sniff*”
