Hollywood actor/rapper Ice Cube has come forward to share his thoughts on his summer 2015 blockbuster Straight Outta Compton not receiving a Best Picture nomination at this year’s Academy Awards.

Instead of lashing out or pointing fingers, Cube noted the film’s box office performance as success enough.

“I’m not pissed. I’m not surprised. It’s the Oscars, they do what they do,” Cube said. “The people loved the movie, the people supported the movie, it was No. 1 at the box office, over $200 million worldwide. I can’t be mad, you know.” (“Wendy Williams”)

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences overlooked the summer 2015 blockbuster when it announced its Best Picture nominees this week.

It’s amazing … not only did the movie get overlooked for best pic, only 8 movies were nominated and there could have been 10, but clearly they didn’t think the biopic passed muster. The Academy was under a microscope for this one … a lot of people thought this would clearly show if they were bias against black movies. (TMZ)

Former N.W.A. manager Jerry Heller recently said the flick had specific inaccuracies with late member Eazy E‘s story.

“The film started off with Eazy getting beat up. That’s a joke. You’re going to tell me that Eazy got beat up? That’s ridiculous. So right from the get-go, I said, “Whoa, this is going to a weird place.” As for the things that bothered me, I’ve been in the business for six decades. I’ve probably represented almost every major artist in the world, either directly or peripherally, at one time or another. I have a certain reputation, and that reputation certainly doesn’t entail the things that they said about me. It was very hurtful. I thought “No Vaseline” was hurtful. But actually, this was more hurtful. Look, I am what I am, but I’m not a thief. And I’m not scandalous. I did more for N.W.A … I mean, it was just incredible, the success that we had. So for them to call me a thief is just terrible. And I’m just not going to allow that.” (Rolling Stone)

After its first 3 full days in theaters, the flick managed to debut at number 1 and easily surpassed its $28 million budget.

“Straight Outta Compton” lifted the box office out of its August funk, debuting at No. 1 in the U.S. and Canada with an estimated $56.1 million. The movie posted the biggest August opening ever for an R-rated film, and it has become the No. 1 musical biopic. (Los Angeles Times)
