According to Cudi, there are too many complications and commitments involved when doing collaborations.

“I’m not interested in being someone’s look. And that’s what it is nowadays–a look. It’s hard for me to charge people, because I do my stuff for free. I do all my stuff with Jay and Kanye on the house, because it’s a brotherhood. Besides them, I can’t really hit nobody with a fee, because then that’s a dispute. What I want to charge, motherfuckers might not have a budget for! On top of that, it’s a commitment when you do a song with somebody. Like, “We need a single, we need the video.” And then–like I said in the last interview, being that I don’t f*ck with most people musically–it’s tough for me to want to bend and be a part of people’s projects.” (Complex)

Recently, West Coast rapper Game promised to release a feature-less fifth solo project.

“The next album is gonna be Soundtrack to Chaos,” Game revealed in a video. “No features. None…It’s funny, my last album on Interscope. No features — nobody on the hook except us. No features. None. Zero. No Weezy, Jeezy, Drake. No singers, nothing. Just us. That’s it. That’s it. Album number five.Soundtrack to Chaos.” (YouTube)

Last February, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj said she, too, was done with features for a while.

“I’m done with the collabs,” Minaj revealed in an interview. “No more collabs for the next two years. [Britney Spears?] Oh yeah. [smiles] Britney’s a snatch like me and she’s cute. Yes. We might could do something.” (Hip Hollywood)

Sticking to the music, Cudi’s last solo album debuted on the sales chart in November.

G.O.O.D. Music artist Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon 2 debuted on the chart today at No. 3 falling behind Taylor Swift‘s Speak Now (211,800) and Susan Boyle‘s The Gift (317,900) which topped the competition. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Cudder’s sophomore album cashed in 169,800 records after seven days in stores. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
