Reflecting on her past success on BET’s “Toya & Tiny” reality series, Carter discussed fans’ initial perception of her.

“People thought [T.I.‘s wife] Tiny and I were gong to do a baby momma show. They only knew that I was married to Lil Wayne. But once we did season 2, they knew more about me. My life has changed, and I’m more in the public’s eye. I hear from people who are inspired by my story. I didn’t do the show to bash Lil Wayne or be labeled the mother of his first child. I will always be attached to him, but I’m doing things to better myself such as the TV show, my book and opening a clothing store.” (Rolling Out)

Toya recently talked to SOHH about her new reality show, “Toya: Family Affair.”

“Looking back at the last show, I’ve seen myself grow from “Tiny & Toya.” I look back and realize that was my first time [in the spotlight], so I was able to see how I was able to grow. I feel like I’ve really grown a whole lot and this show is going to show you a whole different Toya than what you saw on [the previous reality series]. I hope people watching “Toya: Family Affair” can take from [my family’s] situation. In my situation, we’re sharing a whole lot of severities in this show and there’s a lot of people out there that are going through the same if not similar situation as me and my family.” (SOHH Guest Star)

Recently, she opened up about how much of a loyal father Wayne has been as of late.

“I’m not around him like that so I don’t really know, but when I do see him he’s cool. He seems like he’s got his business mind on straight. He’s been with his kids a lot lately. And that’s all that matters, to me, is his relationship with his kids, his daughter. The rest is history.” (VIBE)

Last year, Toya defended her decision to retain Wayne’s last name.

“I’m glad you asked that because I get that a lot about my last name,” she revealed in an interview. “To me what’s the big deal with the last name? My daughter is a Carter, it’s not because I’m all attached to Wayne, but we were married and that was my last name. Its bad enough a lot of other things shifted up like I don’t see the last name being an issue.” (All Hip Hop)
