After rapper Hurricane Chris dubbed himself the "best rapper alive" in an interview earlier this month, SOHH got in touch with the Southern emcee to see if he could defend the title against artists like Jay-Z and Lil Wayne.

According to Chris, he sees himself as the “tough guy” character from Ice Cube‘s Friday series, “D-Bo,” and cannot imagine another artist claiming his title.

“Hand for hand, foot for foot, when it comes to rapping, you put somebody in my face and whatever category you give us, whatever you tell us to flow about, you tell us to talk about each other, I’m gonna destroy ’em,” Chris promised SOHH. “I’ll destroy whoever you put in front of me. Your talent shines until it gets in the presence of mine. Understand that? You see a star in the sky and it looks real bright until you go out the next day and there’s a bigger star next to that star — D-Bo, D-Bo, D-Bo. I’m the D-Bo of the rap game. I’m the D-Bo of it, watch what I tell you.” (SOHH)

From Chris’ perspective, his freestyle skills place him ahead of the competition.

“I’m the best rapper alive, put a mic in front of me and you gon’ see what’s up!,” he explained in an interview. “You know they duckin’ me they dodging me; I’m that new kid on the block they’re scared of, that they know is gettin’ all the girls! But they be like ‘oh him?’ (laughs). But you know it’s hurting your feelings every time I get on the freestyle and wreck it till they can’t even listen to an instrumental no more. We got a lot of cats who say they freestyling, and you turn on the radio and you hear the same thing that they said they was freestyling a minute ago, you hear that wrote down, you know? A lot of these clowns is just what I said: clowns.” (SoJones)

Jay-Z recently pointed out why he should be seen as the “best” rapper in the game.

“But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my a**,” Jay said in the interview. “I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that…I believe in a lot of things. I believe that “SportsCenter” is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. I’m talking about real run. I’m not talking about years off. I’m talking about straight–boom, boom, boom–back to back. We’re not talking about heritage acts either. We’re not talking about respect what I’ve done. I’m talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.” (XXL Magazine)

Cash Money Records’ Baby has vouched for Lil Wayne in the past saying the rapper’s lyrical talent bypasses Hov.

“No n*gga in the business itself make more money than us,” Baby explained in an interview. “More than [Wayne], than us. So how could a motherf*cker even want that title if he ain’t making the most and I don’t think the n*gga can rap better and I don’t think the people feel him like that, it ain’t about us, it’s about the people. I think we do the most. So if I win the most championships, it must mean I’m the best. That’s how I look at it, we make the most money. Until a n*gga can come by and say he make more money Cash Money, Young Money, why would you want to say you’re the best? And that’s a personal pride, you can live with that on your own…” (Rolling Out TV)

  2. I wonder how all of the beautiful women in NYC feel about Jay Z not marrying one of them? Probably the same way all of those men in Houston feel about why Beyonce marrying Jay Z.
