Days after late rap icon Heavy D's autopsy report showed inconclusive results, the "Overweight Lover's" brother Floyd Myers has spoken out on his family's loss.
Despite the speculation over Heavy’s weight at the time of his death, Floyd contends the 44- year-old was in great physical condition upon his unexpected passing this month.
“Heavy was in great shape,” Floyd Myers, the fallen rapper’s brother and business partner, told MTV News. “You guys seen him at the BET Awards, and he just did the tribute to Michael Jackson; they flew him out to London to do that. Heav was in good shape, healthy, no heart problems. He constantly made sure that his health was in check…He loved family, and that’s who he was, but it wasn’t too much different from how he treated his friends and his fans. He showed everybody love and affection, and we’re gonna miss that.” (MTV)

Results of a post-mortem into the death of rapper Heavy D have been inconclusive in determining why he died last week. The Los Angeles coroner’s office has deferred judgment on how the rapper died suddenly at the age of 44. Last week, a coroner’s spokesman said there were no illegal drugs found in his Beverly Hills home. Toxicology results have not yet been released. Heavy D’s funeral takes place near New York on Friday. Heavy D died on 8 November after being found unconscious at his Los Angeles home. (BBC)
While a toxicology report is still weeks away, speculation on Heavy’s passing suggests medical complications.
Heavy D had returned home from a shopping trip on the day of his death, before experiencing difficulty breathing and collapsing. The results of his toxicology tests could take several weeks to determine an official cause of death. The death is believed to be medically related and foul play is not suspected. A funeral for the New York-born rapper is set for Nov. 18 at the historic Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, NY, at which Diddy and Rev. Al Sharpton are expected to speak. (Billboard)
Following the news, the late hip-hop icon’s family released a statement on their loss.
“The name and the success of Heavy D will always be synonymous with music forever. He never compromised his values and artistry, and encouraged his peers to do the same,” the family said. “To us, Hev was the one who made us laugh, cry, sing, dance and turn a frown upside down. As a family, we are devastated by Hev’s passing but through our faith in God and support from family, friends and fans we are comforted, blessed and will remain strong.” (Los Angeles Times)
