Maybach Music Group's Gunplay recently discussed why he decided to put all of his chips on Def Jam Recordings last year instead of opting to sign with other respectable music labels.

Gunplay credited his decision to join the label music moguls Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin built due to loyalty.

“Um, because that’s where we got our start from,” Gunplay said in an interview when asked why he joined forces with Def Jam Recordings for a solo deal. “So, I’m like a loyal dude. I wouldn’t want to go nowhere else. I know the staff, everybody knows me, to go somewhere else would have been wack. [My Def Jam debut’s release date?] Yes, around spring time.” (HHS1987)

The Miami-based rapper raised eyebrows after officially joining Def Jam last summer.

“It just feels like all the work over these years ain’t go in vain,” Gunplay said about his new situation. “God is good. It’s his plan. It’s his plan. I ain’t got nothing to do with this. I’m just here for the ride, bro. I got an album coming out, I just signed with Def Jam two days ago. The ink just dried. So look out for the untitled album. So far it’s untitled, I’m sitting down with [Rick Ross] and we’re going to make everything happen so we can produce the best product possible.” (VIBE TV)

His news caught the attention of various hip-hop heavyweights including Trina, Kendrick Lamar plus Cool & Dre.

“Congrats fam!!!!! @GUNPLAYMMG #salute,” Trina tweeted July 3rd. (Trina’s Twitter)

“@GUNPLAYMMG they’ll continue to catch up. congrats homie.” (Kendrick Lamar’s Twitter)

“congrats to @gunplaymmg on his deal with defjam. well deserved my brother. well deserved” (Cool & Dre’s Twitter)

Despite his music-making and plans to put on for Def Jam, Rick Ross‘ protégé is currently battling a legal war.

“I’ve been on house arrest for about a month now, I just went to court today. They pushed the trial back to next year, the middle of next year, so I’m still gonna be on house arrest for the meantime, but I’ma try and see if I can get some travel permission by this week, so I should be trying to hit that turf by next week still. It’s like a 75 percent chance right now [I’ll go out and tour], this case really made me sit down and realize the blessings that have been bestowed upon me. I can’t take it for granted. I’m just locked down and focused on my album.” (Global Grind)
