A Long-Awaited Reunion

Griselda, the revered rap collective hailing from Buffalo, is gearing up for a highly anticipated reunion. Westside Gunn, one-third of the group, recently revealed on the Complex Sneaker Show that he is planning to join forces with his fellow Griselda members, Conway The Machine and Benny The Butcher, for an album slated to release in 2024.

The long-awaited reunion comes after fans speculated about possible tension between Griselda members Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine. During a May 2023 interview with Math Hoffa, Benny The Butcher downplayed the issue when asked about the rumored tension between Westside and Conway:

“To be honest with you, I don’t know what it’s about. ‘Cause I’m in the loop with both of them n***as. And whenever that was going on, I know they was talking. Same thing, I call, they check in with each other. But this is what I wanna say: that’s to the world. Remind you that these are my cousins. That ain’t the first time, it won’t be the last.”

Now that it appears the two have made amends, fans anxiously await the reunion sequel to their 2019 debut album, What Would Chine Gun Do (WWCD), the announcement has ignited a discussion about other rap groups that should make a comeback. Here’s a look at some iconic groups that could follow in Griselda’s footsteps by making a comeback:

Outkast

The legendary Atlanta duo consisting of Big Boi and Andre 3000, emerged in the early 1990s as pioneers of Atlanta’s hip-hop scene. Their memorable albums, including Aquemini, Stankonia, and SpeakerBoxxx/The Love Below, solidified their status as trailblazers.

However, the dynamic duo hasn’t released an album since 2006’s Idlewild, leaving fans yearning for a long-awaited reunion that has yet to materialize.

In other OutKast news, Big Boi received a RIAA plaque that said that their 2003 album SpeakerBoxxx/The Love Below became the highest-selling rap album with 13 million units. Fans on social media debate whether or not the title was real.

The Diplomats

The Diplomats, also known as Dipset–comprising Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, and Freekey Zeekey, this Harlem-based rap collective captured listeners’ attention with their acclaimed debut album, Diplomatic Immunity in 2001. Despite reuniting in 2010 and releasing Diplomatic Ties in 2018, fans still hope for a more substantial comeback from these influential rappers.

The LOX

The LOX consisting of Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch, formed in 1994 and quickly gained recognition for their lyrical prowess and captivating storytelling.

Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, The LOX gained prominence with their debut album, Money, Power & Respect, released in 1998. Following their recent Verzuz battle with The Diplomats in 2021, the yearning for a new album from this talented trio has only escalated.

Goodie Mob

The Atlanta quartet, consisting of CeeLo Green, Khujo, Big Gipp, and T-Mo formed in 1991 and rose to prominence with their debut album, Soul Food, in 1995. While they made a comeback with 2020’s Survival Kit, fans are hopeful for a full-fledged reunion that pays homage to their influential legacy.

 Hot Boys

The Hot Boys, composed of Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G., and Turk, made waves in the late 1990s, putting Cash Money Records on the map. Their album Guerilla Warfare in 1999 solidified their status as influential figures in the rap game.

While Lil Wayne and Juvenile found success in their solo careers and B.G. faced legal troubles, their reunion has been a topic of discussion since B.G.’s release from prison in September 2023 after spending over 11 years behind bars. With Cash Money boss Birdman expressing his desire for a reunion, there is not one confirmed.

Tony! Toni! Tone! Makes A Comeback On Stage

Speaking of iconic comebacks, R&B group Tony! Toni! Tone! has recently reunited after a 25-year hiatus. The group is currently on tour, enthralling fans with the Raphael Saadiq Revisits Tony! Toni! Tone! Just Me and You Tour after a 25 year hiatus.
