Rapper Jamal “Gravy” Woolard has reportedly joined the cast of an upcoming biopic on late hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur.

According to reports, Gravy will reprise his Notorious role as late hip-hop artist Notorious B.I.G.

Jamal Woolard will be reprising his role as Christopher Wallace in Morgan Creek Productions’, “All Eyez on Me.” Woolard got rave reviews in 2009 when he played the namesake role in “Notorious.” We’re told producers were so blown away by Woolard’s Biggie performance, he was the top choice when it came to casting. In early December, production company Morgan Creek announced it had replaced director Carl Franklin for the film.

The company, which has been working for years to bring the late rapper’s story to the big screen, is operating with a sense of urgency given that the music rights will revert back to Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, at the end of the year if the film isn’t in production by then. Carl Franklin was poised to direct as recently as the summer, picking up the baton after John Singleton dropped out in April and trashed Morgan Creek in the process. (Billboard)

Director Benny Boom confirmed recent buzz about being hired to direct on social media earlier this month.

Production and casting for the biopic reportedly started to take place last summer.

Still no word who will play Tupac. And now the production is casting for Dr. Dre, Biggie Smalls, and Faith Evans. But the Morgan Creek-produced film has a start date of October. Of course, “Tupac” becomes much more incendiary with the main character’s unsolved murder. Also, the production may have to cast Madonna, who now talks about her 1993 affair with the rapper openly. 1. Still waiting for Hollywood to come out with something about Hannibal Barca, Toussaint L’Overture, Paul Robeson, and a real Jack Johnson biopic, but while avoiding screen depictions of these undeniably huge black (and north African) figures, Hollywood has given us multiple movies about Biggie and Tupac, a movie about NWA, and small screen productions about TLC and Whitney Houston.
If people liked 300, they’ll like Cannae. How has this not been done once when the dude that played Biggie in Notorious is now reprising that character for a SECOND historical rap movie? Come on, fucking Vin Diesel=Hannibal. Special effects, bloody violence, TRUE STORY!!!! What’s the excuse?!?!?
Any black billionaire that doesn’t take a hundred mill and make one of the aforementioned flicks, AIN’T WORTH SHIT. EVERY BLACK MAN IN AMERICA FROM AGE 10 TO 100 WOULD GO SEE A MOVIE ABOUT HANNIBAL OR JACK JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
