The Golden State Warriors aren’t losing any sleep over getting disinvited to the White House to celebrate their 2017 NBA Finals championship. Instead, the star-studded team has hit up the nation’s capital to visit with children instead of President Donald Trump.

According to reports, the Dubs are in Washington, DC taking kids to the National Museum of African American History ahead of their game against the Wizards.

Warriors All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson unveiled the team’s plans after a Monday night victory against the New York Knicks. The basketball team had kept the itinerary for its trip to the nation’s capital, its first and only D.C. game stop in the 2017-18 NBA regular season, under wraps after President Donald Trump abruptly rescinded an invitation for a White House visit last year. “The White House is a great honor, but there’s extenuating circumstances that we felt that we’re not comfortable doing,” Thompson told reporters. “We’re not going to politicize anything, we’re just going to hang out with some kids, take them to an African-American museum and hopefully teach them things we learned along the way and life lessons, and we’ll still be getting some great memories.” (Politico)

A few days ago, Golden State coach Steve Kerr talked about letting the players decide how they wanted to celebrate their championship in DC.

“It’s their championship. They got disinvited to the White House, so it’s up to them what they wanted to do. So they made their plans,” Kerr told ESPN. “I want the players to have a good day and to do something positive and to enjoy what they’re doing.” The tour will consist only of players, coaches and students, sources said. Last September, President Trump fell back on letting the Warriors visit after getting singled out by Golden State’s Steph Curry.

Warriors All-Star Stephen Curry had said he did not want to go to the White House last September and Trump then made it clear he wasn’t welcome, sending a tweet that read : “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!” The White House visit is traditionally scheduled during the NBA champions’ trip to face the Washington Wizards the following season. The Warriors play the Wizards on Wednesday. (New York Daily News)
